I'm Debt Free!

August 28th, 2013 at 11:00 am

I woke up this morning and the first thing I did was check my balances for the two credit cards I have and they both read $0. I couldn't believe it. I even tried to make a payment on both just to check.

I know I didn't scrimp and save to pay my remaining debt, but my settlement money helped me in a big way. If not for it, I would still be in debt until next year. However, I'm proud and grateful because I was working, and had a plan, to pay them off.

Now I have to play catch up and be about saving and respecting my money.

Oh I changed the name of my blog to reflect my new goals and as a reminder of the life I want to live, a debt free life.

Kudos, it's terrific that you made a plan and carried it out marking Paid to CCs. I hope you'll join the percentage of consumers who believe that CCs require we pay the balance in full by it's due date to avoid interest. We hope you'll create and post your plan for savings. I suggest you start by reviewing your current holdings in your retirement plans. You need to ensure you capture any employer contribution. Setting up an automatic contribution to a ROTH maybe a good saving instrument for you in these days of paltry interest paid on savings. Have you looked at Vanguard Index Mutual Fund as a low fee starting point for example? You can make changes later as you become more familiar with their products.

thanks everyone. i'm super excited!!!! i'm about to redo my budget and see exactly what my monthly expenses are not that i don't have to deal with credit card bills.

snafu - Actually I do NOT want to use another credit card right now and for a while. I will keep them all open and tucked away like they are now, but I need a moment. I use my debit card for everything and I want to be careful with using it. I need to feel the pain of cash leaving my hands for a while. Reconnect with money. Smile
